Judith Basin County Fairboard Minutes

4-22-19

Call to order by Janet Wertheimer at 7:05 pm.  Sigrid Deegan, Dawnita Sampsel, Jason Oltrogge, Charlie Hill (speaker phone), Janet Wertheimer, and Katie Hatlelid in attendance.

The minutes from the Feb 5th meeting were read and approved as presented.

Treasurer’s report - $1342.54 in the supply line, $2,631.24 in the sale account.

Old Business

Fair

-          Dedication is being written, will be to the office by May 1. 

-          Schedule was shared with members not present last meeting

-          Auctioneers/Sale – Charlie talked to Shobe Auction, they have us on their calendar and he will ask them to bring Jeff Jedlicka again.

-          Trucking – has been confirmed

-          Carcass Contest – Marc King, date tbd later this summer

-          Meat Delivery – Polzin’s truck will be available

-          Open class super/exhibit hall takedown, Katie will put Rosanna in charge of that this year.

Fairgrounds Improvements

-          Barn upgrades

o   Electric bid – Jason talked to Basin Electric, a rough bid at $3,300 for box, panel, outlets, switches, and wire.  Dawnita moved (Jason) to go ahead with the electrical project as long as we have the funding required.  Motion passed

o   Hog barn pens- Jason (Sigrid) moved to replace the wooden pens with the brown Priefert panels.  Motion Passed.

o   Animal numbers- right now possibility of 73 sale animals, and 44 members with large animal breeding projects.  29 small animal projects.  Barns and pens will be full!

-          Repair Hog Wash Crate – Dan Tresch called Katie in early March, then the weather prevented his stop here.  Katie will check back with him.  Other options for fixing it were Jason O.  Jeff Sampsel and Trevor Annala.

-          Water line – work on it at the July work day

-          Tree trimming and mowing – July work day

-          Bird Net – Stampede club will do it when they have the correct equipment to safely tackle the task.

Buyer Gift – Several options were discussed, the two most aggregable were gift certificates to local establishments or a nice travel coffee cup/tumbler with a JB Fair logo of some sort on it.  Jason moved (Sigrid) to spend up to $1,050 on a buyer gift that will cover each possible animals’ buyer (70 buyers x $15/buyer gift).  Motion passed.

Poultry Cages – Charlie thought he had a few at his house, will investigate.  Dawnita will ask Mikkelsens if they still have theirs from years’ past.

Beef Barn Superintendent – Jeff and Suzanne Harwood agreed to take on this job.  Jason moved (Charlie) to approve their appointment to the post.  Motion passed.

Wood shavings – Katie will contact the Amish at Moore for a load of shavings this summer.  Dawnita will inventory and order if necessary the bagged shavings.

Swamp Coolers – Katie will investigate with Lewistown Rental if they might have two coolers we could rent this summer if the weather is as hot as last year.

Next meeting date – July 8th @ 5pm also a work day, tree trimming, projects, etc.
